3d scanning of outside structure of the monastery in Skalbmierz took less than one day. In such a short time we managed to obtain full spatial data of the object there data later could be used to plot precise floor plans, sections and elevation views. If necessary these data can be converted in to 3D CAD model. The first deliverable of 3d scanning process – point cloud can be reused at any time, for example to the faithful reproduction of the object in case of fire or flood.
In addition to the standard laser scanning we took images that later in the process were used to color the point cloud. We also created high resolution ortho images (metric images) of the front facades which can be used by restorers to assess the damage of walls. For both tasks coloring and ortho generation we implemented our new methodology that combines two elements of the accuracy of the final product and the relatively low amount of work which means lower cost.
