The total length of all the shafts and galleries is about 300 km, and deepest of them reaching 327 meters below the surface. Since 1978 the, Wieliczka Salt Mine, has been listed on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
In the autumn of 2010 we performed 3D laser scanning with a precise measurement of the control points of the mine. The main objective of the laser scanning was to determine the spatial dimensions of the chambers, all measurements the masurments were referred to the local co-ordinate system of the mine.
