<div class="embedtext1">Yet another project of ours involving <a title="heritage documentation" href="http://www.3deling.com/photogrammetry-point-cloud-gniew/" target="_self">heritage documentation</a> of  Teutonic Order fortress by means of new technology &#8211; 3d scanning.<br />
Castle in Toruń was founded at the end of thirteenth century and is the oldest fortress of the Teutonic Order in Poland. Initially the dormitory and a  chapel  on a south wing was erected. Then built an octagonal tower, chapter house, a well and sanitary tower called Gdaniskiem (in order to express his contempt for the free city of Gdańsk).  At the beginning of the fifteenth century, the castle was expanded and strengthened its fortifications. In 1454, the townspeople of Toruń conquered the castle and at the direction of the City Council it was destroyed.

<div class="embedtext">3Deling performed 3D ​​laser scanning of the castle ruins along with the earlier  rebuilt Gdanisko. The final product of our work were metric images so called orthophoto of remaining ruins in RGB colors and an animation showing point cloud – result for 3d scanning. The client also obtained a crude point cloud data with a free version of Pointools ViewPro. This information could be stored on electronic media and used some time later to perform a full architectural CAD inventory of  laser scanned  facility. The combination of 3D laser scanning with precise survey of control points resulted in high accuracy data  the global deviation of registered point cloud  should not exceed 5mm.</div>

<div class="embedtext1">Castle of the Teutonic Knights Order in Gniew was erected on square plan in the XII and XIV century, it is the most powerful stronghold on the left bank of the Vistula river. Originally inhabited by the Teutonic commanders and then rebuilt several times and it changed it&#8217;s purpose for a granary, and later for prison. It was burned in the Great Fire of 1921. The fortress since 1968 has been successively rebuilt and restored, so now it&#8217;s open for public it also holds many performances and productions of historical and tournaments. </div>
<div class="embedtext">Orthophoto of elevation was created form a very accurate 3d point cloud data and high-resolution digital photos which by means of the proper photogrammetric methods have been converted to the orthogonal views. Pixel size of the metric image equal to 2.5 mm provides a very convenient and accurate plans for conservator works. Additional ortho generated from point cloud highlights some details that are not visible on an RGB image. All are metric images have datums in local co-ordinate system and may become a basis for measuring length and area.</div>

<div class="embedtext1">3d scanning of outside structure of the monastery in Skalbmierz took less than one day. In such a short time we managed to obtain full spatial data of the object there data later could be used to plot precise floor plans, sections and elevation views. If necessary these data can be converted in to 3D CAD model. The first deliverable of  3d scanning process – point cloud can be reused at any time, for example to the faithful reproduction of the object in case of fire or flood.  </div>
<div class="embedtext">In addition to the standard laser scanning we took images that later in the process were used to color the point cloud. We also created high resolution ortho images (metric images) of the front facades which can be used by restorers to assess the damage of walls. For both tasks  coloring and ortho generation we implemented our new methodology that combines two elements of the accuracy of the final product and the relatively low amount of work which means lower cost.</div>

<div class="embedtext">The pictures were taken from mobile crane and all the coordinates for orientation were used from point cloud. On the client’s request we performed also deformation analysis of all the floors, so the contractors could calculate the volume/amount of material needed to fill the existing unevenness.   </div>

<div class="embedtext1">Park and museum Lazienki complex in Warsaw announced a public bid for scanning the main buildings. 3Deling was engaged in this project as a subcontractor by one of the companies that won the bid to measure the main building in Lazienki – “Palac na Wodzie”. Our client commissioned 3d scanning, generating black and white orthoimages from point cloud, and colored elevation images as a background for AutoCAD operators who cloud produce 2D elevations CAD drawings.</div>
<div class="embedtext">Additionally we generated point cloud sections that were used to produce floor plans.<br />
Applying just 3d scanning in production often required in the National Heritage orthoimages appeared to be very cost effective in compression to digital fotogrametry.</div>
