Yet another project of ours involving heritage documentation of Teutonic Order fortress by means of new technology – 3d scanning.
Castle in Toruń was founded at the end of thirteenth century and is the oldest fortress of the Teutonic Order in Poland. Initially the dormitory and a chapel on a south wing was erected. Then built an octagonal tower, chapter house, a well and sanitary tower called Gdaniskiem (in order to express his contempt for the free city of Gdańsk). At the beginning of the fifteenth century, the castle was expanded and strengthened its fortifications. In 1454, the townspeople of Toruń conquered the castle and at the direction of the City Council it was destroyed.
3Deling performed 3D laser scanning of the castle ruins along with the earlier rebuilt Gdanisko. The final product of our work were metric images so called orthophoto of remaining ruins in RGB colors and an animation showing point cloud – result for 3d scanning. The client also obtained a crude point cloud data with a free version of Pointools ViewPro. This information could be stored on electronic media and used some time later to perform a full architectural CAD inventory of laser scanned facility. The combination of 3D laser scanning with precise survey of control points resulted in high accuracy data the global deviation of registered point cloud should not exceed 5mm.
